Lesbian Movie Review: Secret Things / Drama, Fantasy, Romance (2002)

Secret Things, or the French title, Choses Secretes, is a French film that exhibits a strong and exciting plot about office seduction. This European delight is performed in French with English subtitles. Jean Claude Brisseau, the director of this work, does a fantastic job of delivering a satisfying taste of lesbian erotica, making this a favorite for viewers who crave that physical interaction between two women, which many directors are often too timid to include on the big screen.
The movie begins by introducing the audience to Sandrine (Sabrina Seyvecou), a naïve young lady who dreams of becoming educated and successful. Realizing that her journey to the top is riddled with real-life struggles, Sandrine finds herself taking a job as a bartender at a strip club, where she meets Nathalie (Coralie Revel), a stripper at the club. The two women end up getting fired after Sandrine, dissuaded by Nathalie, refuses to sleep with a paying client at her boss’s request. The two women then become roommates.
Nathalie, a street-wise young woman, lures Sandrine into her own seemingly successful yet secretly twisted world of deception. Sandrine falls not only for Nathalie’s success, but also her tricks, finding herself desperate for Nathalie’s approval. Sandrine begins to lose sight of herself and her goals as she finds herself more and more involved with Nathalie’s apparently foolproof methods of rising to success.
Nathalie helps Sandrine realize that through deception, lies, and persuasion, sex can be used not only for pleasure, but also as a tool to their advantage when needed. Nathalie gives Sandrine erotic lessons on how to pleasure oneself and others effectively and also teaches Sandrine the art of seduction and how to avoid being seduced.
The women entwine themselves in a variety of sexual activities with each other, some in public, as they find themselves involved in an exciting lesbian affair with one another. Before long, their sexual activities begin involving the men they are attempting to exploit for success. The erotic activities are stimulating for the women as they engage in them with their prey, until they meet their match, learning that their game is not quite as safe as they had originally thought.
Whether you’re drawn to the movie for its intriguing plot or for the lesbian interaction, Secret Things is a guaranteed pleaser. Men and women alike will love this movie for its clever plot twists, identifiable characters, suspense, and mind games that keep one guessing. Anyone who enjoys a good storyline with steamy sex scenes will find this movie a guilty pleasure.
